Über mich

Mein Bild

Short Course action

After a summer of raceboat meetings I decided to have at least one Short Course day before season ends. I really enjoyed the action at Panikteam Troisdorf outdoor track very much!

Systems setup changes

I made some changes to the setup of the Systems. It's now running a 3660 size 1480kV Leopard motor powered by 5s lipo and a 39mm prop. The increased voltage/less kV makes the Amps go down resulting in less stress on the the electrics. As I'm still running a lot on half speed I added some big capacitors to the speedo to make it stay cool. The boat can also be run @ 6s Lipo, but that's overkill again for such an oldie. More pics of the test run here.

Systems maiden voyage

First run of my new pride and joy, the Graupner Systems offshore catamaran. It went incredibly fast, almost too fast for the little pond. It will try a smaller prop next time. All equipment stayed pretty cool, even after half an hour of testing. It's powered by a 3060kV motor @ 11.1V. Summer will be great!! more pics here and a video here.

Systems - update #5

All electrics now installed. It's running a 3060kV motor @ 2 x 3s lipo for now, but might be changed to a 6s setup. Looking forward to first test run!

First offroad run in 2011

The warm spring sun didn't let us think twice. We grabbed our Short Course trucks and hit the nearby offroad race track for a spin. More pics by Jörg here.

Systems - update #1

Here's a quick update on my current project. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this is how the boat will look like when finished:
And this is how it currently looks:
quite a lot of things need to be done. I already placed orders for the flex-drive, strut, water cooled-motor and speed controller. it will take some time for these things to arrive, but I'm not in a hurry as summer is still miles away.

new boat project - Graupner Systems

Looks like the boat bug got me again. Just after I finished restoration of the Scimitar, I decided to go for another boat project. I can't help it, it's vintage again, but will be powered by some modern lipo/brushless/watercooled/insanespeed equipment. The old building instructions are quite promising (and huge - please notice the WD40 can on the right!)

Graupner Scimitar Speed

Here's my boat from back in the day, a Graupner Scimitar Speed. It's from the golden age of Graupner watercraft. I have it since 1987, when I got it from Santa (good old Santa). It was used a lot back then, but lucky enough it made its journey through the time capsule without damage. In the last couple of weeks I gave it a major overhaul, including replacement of damaged parts. The electronics were still working, but the mechanical speed controller was missing. I could find a replacement on ebay and voila, my boat is in period correct condition again! I even have my original Graupner D4 radio, which also made the time journey. Please find more pics here.

The boat is modeled after the 'Scimitar' made my Glastron Carlson from 1980 to 1984. They were outstanding in workmanship and design. More info about these can be found here.
